How Long Should I Wait After Giving Birth to Get Lipo and Butt Augmentation by Fat Transfer?

We usually recommend that patients wait about 6 months after they have finished breast feeding before consulting for surgery. Depending on the patient, it may be up to one year after birth before the individual is able to move forward with a cosmetic procedure.

After having a baby a woman feels out of shape but it’s important to breast-feed (because that burns up to 500 calories per breast-feeding). Wearing good compression will also help the post pregnancy body to return to its shape.

After having a baby so many changes occur that it’s better to let the body return to normal naturally before making any decisions.

Advantages Of Tumescent Liposuction

A few advantages of Tumescent Liposuction by Dr. Nathan Long, M.D. of Cosmetic Procedures Clinic in Dallas, TX includes the following:

  • You are mildly sedated but awake during the procedure
  • You have small incisions that require no stitching
  • You have better safety than procedures requiring general anesthesia
  • You go home the same day as the procedure
  • You are back to work in a few days

What Is Fat Transfer?

Fat transfer is also called fat grafting or fat injection. Currently, Dr. Nathan Long offers the Fat Transfer with Tumescent Liposuction procedure to the buttocks only. This is done to increase the volume and augment the buttocks appearance. After a Fat Transfer to the buttocks you will see results immediately following your surgery. However, the results you see immediately following your surgery will reduce slightly as swelling resolves. The results will remain overtime in big or small ways. The areas were Tumescent Liposuction was performed, you will see immediate results of a more slim and contoured appearance.

During the process of fat transfer, the fat is suctioned out using the tumescent liposuction technique. Next, the fat is concentrated and the tumescent fluid is removed. During the procedure the skin is not cut. The fat is removed and injected using a very small incision. Finally the fat cells are placed into the buttock area. To be a good candidate for fat transfer it is necessary that enough fat be present in another location for liposuction.

The benefit of using your own harvested fat to augment your buttocks area, is that it is natural. We do not use fat implants to augment the buttocks only your own natural fat.  During your recovery, you will notice in all areas that were treated, some swelling, sometimes minimal bruising (for patients that already bruise easily).

Fat transfer is also called fat grafting or fat injection. Currently, Dr. Long offers the Fat Transfer procedure to the buttocks only. This is done to increase the volume and augment the buttocks appearance.

Patients should always remember that there is a 50% chance in any fat transfer procedure that the fat cells transferred may not thrive and live in their new location. If the transferred fat cells do not survive or “take” they will naturally be resorbed or dissolve away.

During the process of fat transfer, the fat is liposuctioned out using the tumescent liposuction technique. Next, the fat is concentrated, removing the tumescent fluid. Finally, the fat cells are re-injected into the buttock area. To be a good candidate for fat transfer it is necessary that enough fat be present in another location for liposuction.

The benefit of using your own harvested fat to augment your buttocks area, is that it is natural.
